Workplace Safety Training for Teachers and Students
The Institute for Labor Studies provides a curriculum for teaching high school students about occupational health and safety and workplace rights in Rhode Island. Train-the-trainer sessions for educators are conducted by the Institute, the RI office of OSHA, and the Education Unit of the RI Department of Labor and Training. Professional Development Credits are available.
Train-the-Trainer: Minimizing Risk and Liability for Teachers and Others Who Place Students in the Workplace
This workshop will provide all those who place students in work-based learning environments the specialized training required in order to satisfy insurance requirements and to ensure the safety of all students in the workplace.
Using Labor History in the Classroom
In this program, teachers and labor historians present and discuss resources, curriculum, and examples of how to teach labor history in the classroom. Professional development credit available. Sponsored by the Rhode Island Labor History Society, the Museum of Work and Culture, Woonsocket, RI, and the Institute for Labor Studies.
Workplace Law and Safety Train-the-Trainer Workshops
The Institute for Labor Studies, in partnership with the RI Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, will be offering Train-the-Trainer workshops on workplace health and safety and student worker rights for all teachers and school personnel involved in workplace learning for students. With increasing numbers of secondary students seeking internships and job-related placements to fulfill graduation requirements , this train-the-trainer program is critical to reducing the risks and liabilities of teachers, schools, and school districts. Student’s Guide to Health and Safety on the Job and Workplace Rights
A 2-hour presentation based on the Institute’s brochure, “A Student’s Guide to Health and Safety on the Job,” and workplace rights in Rhode Island. This presentation is offered at various times and locations throughout the state of Rhode Island.
The Institute has funding to make presentations and workshops available to teachers at career high schools and technical schools in Rhode Island.
