LaborVision

The Institute for Labor Studies & Research has produced LaborVision continuously since 1986. It is the only television show dedicated exclusively to covering issues that concern Rhode Island’s working families.

In addition to regularly covering a range of topics, LaborVision each month chooses a current issue to explore in depth. Past and future topics include:

  • Customized editions of LaborVision featuring the state’s major labor organizations
  • Emerging Challenges in the Labor Movement
  • Government Decisions and the Healthcare Crisis
  • Immigration
  • New Faces in Organized Labor
  • Political Process
  • Public Education
  • Rhode Island’s Tax System

LaborVision interviews people on the street, on the job, and at conferences and meetings about the issues that matter to them.

Each month experts and community leaders come together to form a panel to discuss a timely issue.

During the past year, LaborVision has undertaken a series of special editions that highlight the positive impact that unions around the state have, not only on their members, but also on their communities and on all working people.

These programs will continue throughout the coming year to feature public employees, health professionals, the building trades and laborers, restaurant and hotel workers, and a diverse cross-section of Rhode Islanders whose pride in their work is closely tied to their union membership.

LaborVision has also recently begun to accept commissioned projects from labor organizations to produce media that can be used for a variety of training and promotional purposes. Project requests can be initiated through the contact information below.

The organized labor movement in Rhode Island is proud and fortunate to have LaborVision, which was given special recognition in the form of a 2007 PEG Award, as a communications vehicle to bring its message to all Rhode Islanders through public access programming.

LaborVision is always looking for volunteers to help interview, videotape, and promote the show. We are also interested in new ideas.
